Modern Exposition Services, the exposition and event service division of the Utah-based Modern Display group of companies, has merged with Salt Lake City-based SceneMakers, the award-winning event design and production firm specializing in special events, stage design and production, scenic decor, theme parties and exquisite florals.
Together, SceneMakers Event Productions – a Modern Expo Company – will offer single-stop shopping when it comes to corporate events, trade shows, event environments, exposition services, floral design, private celebrations, project installations and related exposition and event services.

“Modern has set a standard for this industry for a number of years,” said Doug Smith, co-founder and owner of SceneMakers. “This is a tremendous opportunity for us to integrate our creativity and passion with their tremendous resources, recognized brand, top-flight organization and professional approach.
A 12-time “Best of State” award winner, SceneMakers was founded in 1995 and has a long list of work for clients national, regionally and locally – and on projects for clients including Disney World, the Miss America Pageant, Delta Air Lines, Coca-Cola, Xerox, Visa, General Motors, Chevrolet, Volkswagen, Macy’s, Rolls Royce and Pfizer, among others.

The new SceneMakers-Modern group will include scenic designers, sound and lighting technicians, AV specialists, directors and choreographers, carpenters, florists, master chefs, caterers, transportation captains and pyrotechnicians. The blending of Modern’s history, vendors, capabilities, inventory and experience with SceneMakers’ recognized style, award-winning design, and creative pedigree will create a combined entity “far greater than the sum of its parts,” according to Vriens.
“This is about the best getting better,” he said. “The synergy of Modern and SceneMakers will create unparalleled resources and opportunities for our clients, and a company that is unique to the industry in that all the aspects of event production are available under one roof.”
All of the current SceneMakers team will make the transition to the Modern offices at 424 South 700 East in
“We’re thrilled about this new partnership,” said Danny Setjo, co-owner and founder of SceneMakers. “Our combined resources give us the latitude to take on clients and projects of every size and scope while ensuring that our longtime customers continue to enjoy the very personal, creative touch we’ve been known for.”
