Students of the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business at Westminster College are being prepared for a competitive and global job market, according to Dr. Jin Wang, dean of the business school.
Wang spoke yesterday at the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Utah Chapter October breakfast. Citing the potential for a shift of world powers in the coming years, Wang said that to prepare business students for the global economy, they are required to spend time in another country.
“We often have groups to South Africa, China, Europe and Latin America. And our idea is to develop partnerships in four continents, so that our students…have opportunities to learn and job shadow in four continents,” said Wang. “So they are not only international, but truly global.”
The process of producing global talent involves partnering with universities in other countries. Currently, Westminster collaborates with Universities in China, Germany and the Netherlands to train students for global challenges.
Wang noted the success of a recent trip abroad in which a group of students worked on a marketing plan for a local firm in the state of Utah. “It turned out to be a very exciting and rewarding experience and opportunity,” he said.
Westminster is tackling future challenges by taking action now and prepping students with real-life experience and job shadowing in multiple countries, “so when they come back to the state of Utah, they are ready, they are well prepared for your companies,” said Wang.
