West Valley City and GSBS Architects received an Award of Merit from the Utah Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) for the West Valley City Center Master Plan; the plan’s major development, Fairbourne Station, has been underway since May 19, 2011. The Utah Chapter APA Award of Merit is judged on six different criteria: originality, quality, comprehensiveness, public participation, transferability and implementation.
The West Valley City Center Master Plan concept creates an urban experience of living, working and shopping. The plan aims provide an attainable vision, to capitalize on immediate opportunities, coordinate development costs to maximize efficiency by sharing public space and assist in additional development.
“It is an honor to be recognized by our peers at the Utah Chapter American Planning Association,” said planning director Steve Pastorik. “The City Center Master Plan has proven invaluable in providing a framework for City staff to use in making decisions regarding development within the City Center area.”
The West Valley City Center Master Plan includes the ongoing Fairbourne Station development with the recently completed Promenade at Fairbourne Station, UTA Bus Hub and TRAX Station. Fairbourne Station will also welcome an Embassy Suites Hotel in December and construction will begin on the first residential phase of the project in November.
