Leadership Lessons from Four Top Utah Execs

By Tom Haraldsen | Photography by Matt Barr

April 10, 2014

One challenge that she had to overcome was her gender, but it’s nothing she complaints about. When she was made a manager, she was barely 30 years old.

“There’s still somewhat of a perception that this industry is male dominated when it comes to senior leadership positions,” she says. “I think my biggest challenge has been to overcome that perception, to change what a senior leader in the banking industry looks like, sounds like and how they act. But like any other challenge in any business environment, if you work hard and if you are willing to listen, you can meet those challenges and win people over.”

Taylor says another important aspect to rising through the leadership ranks is “knowing you don’t have all the answers, that you’re not always right. Today, it’s a lot more about collaborating, team work and approaching things with an open mind. No matter what your age is or your experience level might be, remain humble enough to realize not every idea has to be yours. Often, the best ones may not be.”
