West Jordan — Smith’s Food & Drug will construct a new Smith’s Marketplace store at The Highlands, a 370-acre master-planned community at 7800 South and 5600 West in West Jordan.
The 123,000 square foot store will be the second Smith’s Marketplace in West Jordan and is planned to offer about 100,000 products. A new Smith’s Fuel Station will be added adjacent to the store.
The store is planned to be Energy Star rated, with open ceilings and skylights and LED lighting. Preliminary plans include a fountain, outdoor lighting, wireless access, outdoor music and attractive landscaping.
Smith’s is purchasing the property from Peterson Development Company. Smith’s Marketplace will anchor the first phase of the project which will pave the way for the continued development of 50,000 square foot of retail shopping and additional commercial, residential, open space, parks and community centers. Construction on a new section of 5600 West from 7800 South to 6200 South is scheduled for completion in 2014.
"Smith's is the first of many new shopping and dining options that will be coming to the area and one that our residents are eagerly anticipating," said West Jordan Mayor Melissa Johnson. “They are a welcomed addition to the community.”
