Want to discover the up-and-comers in the tech community? Signal Peak Ventures just unveiled its annual list of the Top 100 Venture-affiliated Entrepreneurs, also known as the v100.
The v100 is a list of the entrepreneurs who are most likely to make waves in the IT or biotech industries in the next five to seven years.
Signal Peak Ventures, formerly vSpring Capital, launched the program in 2004. “There’s a lot of great talent and good companies in the state, and this is an effort on our part to promote collaboration and cooperation within the industry,” said Brandon Tidwell, managing director at Signal Peak Ventures.
The firm solicited nominations from about 8,000 people in the business and academic communities, said Tidwell. Respondents could nominate up to 20 people who they felt would be most likely to head a successful local startup venture—as a CEO or a CTO—in the next five to seven years. Candidates didn’t need to have current involvement with a startup, said Tidwell—just the potential for a leading role in the near future.
Signal Peak Ventures received nearly 500 nominations. The individuals who were nominated were then asked to vote amongst themselves, and the top 100 vote getters made the list. Because of the unique nomination and voting procedure, the resulting v100 list is a good reflection of the young, dynamic individuals and companies that are most likely to be at the forefront over the next few years, said Tidwell.
“We created the program to help entrepreneurs, investors and businesspeople make connections and network with each other,” said Tidwell. “We want to facilitate and cultivate relationships between the best and the brightest in our IT and life science communities.”
