Sahara Wins Award for Tooele County Detention Center

Press Release

May 30, 2012

Sahara recently won an award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Utah for the construction of the Tooele County Detention Center in Tooele, Utah. The project was honored as the Best Commercial Project in Utah more than $5 million.

The Tooele County Detention Center is a 72,000 SF facility with 277 total beds in three separate pods (Men’s, Women’s and Medical). The pods have separate booking, classrooms, worker dormitories and maximum/minimum and minimum security units. Other features of the facility include several padded cells, video visitation, electronic inmate commissary kiosks, a non-denominational church and high tech surveillance systems and control rooms. The project was completed in December 2011. World Links Groups was the project developer and GSBS Architects designed the facility.

“The level of synergy and cooperation of such a huge number and variety of people ranging from designers, to subcontractors, city council members, county commissioners, developers, utility companies, the Army, and City Departments was frankly, amazing,” Carl Schrank, senior project manager of Sahara, Inc. said. “To take this project from site selection to ready for occupancy in 12 months is something that many in the process did not think could happen. We found that enough good people pulling for a common goal can produce amazing results.”

Based in Davis County since 1985, Sahara has provided professional design/build and construction management services utilizing a unique client-oriented, collaborative management approach for the design and construction of commercial, industrial, institutional, retail and residential projects throughout the western United States.
