Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed H. DAVID BURTON to serve on the Board of Directors for the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). Burton was recently released from his calling as the Presiding Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a position he held for 16 years. He previously served as a counselor in the Presiding Bishopric and a budget officer in the LDS Church. He was also formerly employed by Kennecott Utah Copper and the Utah Tax Commission. The UTA Board of Directors is comprised of 15 individuals. The Governor makes one appointment to the Board. The Governor’s appointment serves for a term of four years and does not require confirmation from the Utah State Senate.
CHEALSEA SLOAN, owner of Uptown Cheapskate, was recognized as the top student entrepreneur in Utah at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards. Uptown Cheapskate is a store that buys and sells new and gently used designer and high-end merchandise for teens and young men and women. The store has locations at 353 W. 200 S. in Salt Lake City and at 400 W. 500 S. in Bountiful. Sloan has also established franchise opportunities for Uptown Cheapskate across the country.
Henry Walker Homes has named JAMI FURNISS as Director of Marketing. In her new role, she will oversee all marketing activities including onsite signage, print materials and online outreach and will serve as the primary liaison for the customer. Furniss previously worked in research, web design and development at Marketstar and i4 Solutions. She attended Lehman College in New York and studied business technology and media design. Furniss She is actively involved in the community with Race for Grace Charity, Movember (promoting men’s health), TWLOHA (promoting depression awareness), Alzheimers Memory Walk and is a black belt instructor at Fighting Brother Karate in Kaysville.
