How to Create and Implement a Successful CDHP Model

Sabatino says key to an employee’s success with a CDHP model is how easy the model is to follow. “Things need to be spelled out and be easy,” she says, adding that executive participation is equally important. “Organizations that are really, really successful with CDHP models are those that have support from leadership.”

Providing motivating incentives is also vital to ensuring a successful CDHP model. Incentives should line up with the company’s specific health-related objectives, rewarding the right behavior and specific achievements. Incentives should motivate people to want to change their unhealthy habits, not just reward passive participation. “You want to reward people for doing things that matter—reaching a goal.”

Employers should consider their employees as partners during the transition to a CDHP model, creating a strategy that benefits all involved. “Part of your change needs to address how you as a corporation are going to bring your employees along as partners in this process.”
