Salt Lake City – Two women from Salt Lake have opened what is Utah’s first ever lice clinic—Hair Maidens. The clinic treats people infested with head lice.
“There is a consistent stream of head lice in Salt Lake City,” said Ashley Hafer, who co-owns Hair Maidens with her business partner Rita Skolnick.
Hafer is a nurse, and Skolnick holds a Ph.D. from the University of Utah. The duo treat clients with the FDA-Cleared AirAllé—a medical device used worldwide, but developed right here by biologists at the University of Utah. The device dehydrates and kills head lice and their eggs in one treatment, using only heated air.
“It gives us a great head start on the fight against the nits. As small as they are, it's great to know the device has desiccated the lice eggs before we even start combing,” says Hafer.
Treatments are scheduled by appointment, and Hafer explains that the service is private and discreet, and that they take the time to educate their clients.
“We are advocates of education, and want to assist families with knowledge so they can eradicate head lice,” Hafer says.
