Salt Lake City – The King's English Bookshop will remodel its children's room this summer, thanks to a grant from best-selling mystery novelist James Patterson.
Patterson announced grants to The King's English and 43 other independent bookstores nationwide this week in New York at Book Expo America, the publishing industry's annual trade show. The awards, totaling $268,000, represent the second round of a planned $1 million that Patterson plans to give to independent bookstores this year to promote reading among children.
The grant was awarded on the basis of a proposal submitted to Patterson by The King's English and will allow the bookshop to refurbish the children's room, the most heavily trafficked and extensively used space in the store.
