Jordan Valley Medical Center and Pioneer Valley Hospital have been certified as “Primary Stroke Centers” after demonstrating their adherence to national standards for care and treatment of stroke patients.
A key component of the hospitals’ stroke treatment capabilities is their 24-hour-a-day “TeleStroke” partnership with University Hospital in Salt Lake City. In the event neurologists on the hospitals’ medical staffs are not available, Jordan Valley and Pioneer Valley will communicate via a dedicated linked to University Hospital neurologists who will be able to assess, monitor and converse with patients electronically.
“This latest certification as a Primary Stroke Center is another step in our overall stroke treatment program, which includes specialized stroke treatment training for ER physicians, nurses and our emergency medical services partners, along with patient rehabilitation services and a stroke support group for continued healing,” said Bryanie Swilley, CEO of Jordan Valley Medical Center and Pioneer Valley Hospital. “It’s also another indication of Jordan Valley Medical Center’s and Pioneer Valley Hospital’s ongoing commitment to being comprehensive medical centers offering a full range of services for illness and injury.”
The certification was issued by DNV Healthcare Inc., and it is recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). DNV’s Primary Stroke Center Certification program incorporates elements from its National Integrated Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (NIAHO) hospital accreditation standards as well as requirements from the guidelines of the Brain Attack Coalition and recommendations of the American Stroke Association. DNV certification assessment activities included observations, interviews and document review.
