Companies to Watch
Each month, we ask our Facebook fans to nominate their favorite Utah-owned businesses and select one to feature here. This month we asked fans to tell us their favorite auto repair shop. Want us to write about a business you love? Follow us at www.facebook.com/UtahBusiness and watch for the next time we ask for business recommendations.
Mark Gines knows a lot of people are suspicious of auto repair shops. He knows it takes a lot of trust to hand a mechanic the keys to your beloved car and hope he doesn’t take advantage of the fact that you know very little about what makes a car run or what it costs to fix it.
He also knows the best way to run a repair shop is to be honest and respectful and to do high-quality work. That’s a big part of why Gines Auto Service in Kearns has developed a large and loyal customer over the past several decades. Al Lampkin, one of those who recommended Gines on the Utah Business Facebook page, wrote, “They have kept my car humming for over 130,000 miles. Always helpful and friendly and know what they’re doing.”
Mark Gines places a high priority on community engagement. For example, twice a year he offers free classes where he teaches women basic maintenance and repair so they’ll be able to keep take care of their cars and feel more confident when talking to mechanics.
Auto service is a tradition in the Gines family. Mark Gines’ father first opened a gas station and repair shop in 1960. Father and son opened Gines Auto Service at its current location in 1978. Now Mark Gines’ son and his brother-in-law both help run the shop. Though Gines Auto Service has been around for decades, it’s certainly not stuck in the past. Several technicians are certified to work on hybrids and fully electric cars.
Those certifications are just one of many reasons customers trust Gines Auto Service and keep coming back, Gines says. “They know when it’s done it’s going to be done right.”
