Edward Jones offers some uncommon perks. For example, it has a unique adoption plan, which covers a baby immediately after birth and may cover the birth mother as well. When the adoption is finalized, Edward Jones sends a check for $5,000 to help with any other costs.

Employees praise the company for its culture. “At other firms, the culture is a cut-throat culture, where fellow employees are viewed essentially as competitors,” one employee says. “This is not the case at Edward Jones.”

Bamboo HR

Bamboo HR makes online human resources software for small- and medium-size businesses.

And that's a refreshing experience.” The company’s leadership works to create a culture where working long hours or weekends at the expense of family or health is discouraged. Schedules are flexible and many employees telecommute.

The company also works to create a culture in which all members’ opinions are sought and valued. Anyone at any level is invited to discuss any concerns, questions or ideas with anyone else in the company.

Bamboo gives each employee a monthly health reimbursement account allowance to be used on their healthcare coverage.

DigiCert

DigiCert provides SSL certificates used to encrypt sensitive information online.

At DigiCert, having fun is serious business. In addition to regular paid time off, the company takes all employees and their families on a trip to Disneyland every year. It also gives employees a bonus each year that must be spent on a vacation, which doesn’t use up their paid time off.

DigiCert has a program called “Pay-it-Forward,” which gives money each holiday season to employees for them to contribute to the charitable cause of their choice. 

All of this has helped create a company that has had very little turnover in the past 10 years. One employee says, “I can honestly say for the first time in my life that I actually look forward to going to work.”
