Employers gave credit to employees for good work environments and company success at Utah Business’s Best Companies to Work For awards luncheon Wednesday.
The 22 companies were being honored after going through a rigorous survey process, involving company information about benefits and environment, and an anonymous employee survey filled out by a significant amount of the company’s employees.
Employees frequently detailed things they loved about their workplaces—things like extraordinary benefits, truly open management, company vacations, flexible schedules and more made these companies places their employees enjoy working.
The common thread among award recipients seemed to be a recognition of the role employees play in company success and a genuine desire to make sure employees feel valued and happy.
“It doesn’t matter what type of benefits you have in place if you don’t have the right people,” said Desiree Voight, BrainStorm senior manager.
Once the right people are in place, you have to take care of them, said Jeff Chandler, DigiCert director of public relations. He said they feel like if they take care of their employees, then the people will work hard to get the skills and information they need to keep DigiCert competitive.
USANA Vice President of HR Paul Jones said when he was crunching numbers in the 1980s, struggling to make the company budget work, an older employee told him to “focus on the heart.” Jones said that is at the core of his decisions because, “If you focus on the heart, if you engage the heart, the numbers will take care of themselves.”
