SALT LAKE AREA

Salt Lake City – CELTIC BANK funded a PACE bond with Los Angeles County in the amount of $6.86 million for the New Constance Hotel located in Pasadena, Calif. Funds for the hotel will be used to install energy efficient improvements.

Salt Lake City – VISIT SALT LAKE gave the Tourism Achievement Award to LEWIS STAGES. The annual award honors members and community organizations for their efforts to support tourism in Salt Lake County.

Salt Lake City – Boston-based law firm MORSE, BARNES-BROWN & PENDLETON, PC (MBBP) opened an office in Salt Lake City. The office is led by partners Jeffrey P. Steele and James J. Kelly.

Salt Lake City – KEYSTONE AVIATION donated a Piper Seneca to the SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE aviation department. The aircraft will initially be part of an educational reconstruction experience for approximately 200 students, who will participate first-hand with repairs. 

Salt Lake City – THE KING’S ENGLISH BOOKSHOP received a grant to remodel its children’s room. The grant came from novelist James Patterson, who awarded a total of $268,000 in grants to 44 independent bookstores nationwide.

Salt Lake City – MINDSHARE TECHNOLOGIES, which acquired Empathica in September 2013, announced the two companies have united under a new corporate entity: INMOMENT. The company now provides a cloud-based customer experience optimization platform called the Experience Hub.

Salt Lake City – KADDAS ENTERPRISES, a thermoform plastic manufacturer, received sales accreditation from Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), the exclusive provider of electricity in Mexico. The accreditation will allow Kaddas to sell to the entire country of Mexico as a pre-approved supplier.

Salt Lake City – Brickyard Plaza added two new tenants: GOLD’S GYM EXPRESS and ULTA BEAUTY. The 306,000-square-foot shopping center occupies 23 acres of land at the corner of 1300 East and 3300 South. It is currently home to more than 25 retail stores.

West Valley City – 201 Commerce Center, Building 6 broke ground in West Valley City. The industrial listing is being overseen by the Salt Lake office of CBRE. A joint-venture development between CLARION PARTNERS and DLM DEVELOPMENT, Building 6 is a 307,935-square-foot, Class-A, cross-dock industrial building.

Salt Lake City – ORACLE announced plans to create approximately 351 jobs in Utah over the next 10 years and open a new customer software support center in Salt Lake County.

Salt Lake City – UNIVERSITY OF UTAH electrical engineers designed a thin layer of a transparent plastic or glass that sorts and concentrates sunlight to boost the efficiency of solar cells by up to 50 percent. This layer, called a polychromat, can be integrated into the cover glass of a solar panel or used to boost power efficiency in a cell phone or improve low light conditions for a camera.

Salt Lake City – RC WILLEY debuted its newest home décor line—Klaussner Home Furnishings’ Carolina Preserves Collection, created in collaboration with artist William Mangum.

Magna – ATK finished testing on the primary mirror backplane support structure for NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope. ATK designed, engineered and constructed more than 10,000 parts for the structure.

Magna – Wal-Mart opened a new WAL-MART NEIGHBORHOOD MARKET in Magna at 3555 S. 8400 West. The new store, one-fifth the size of a traditional Wal-Mart, employs about 95 full- and part-time associates.

Salt Lake City – INSTRUCTURE announced new technology for its Canvas learning management system, which encourages participation and records more of the educational experience that occurs in the classroom.

Salt Lake City – Retail Properties of America, Inc. announced DOPO, LLC is opening a new restaurant concept, DOPO, at THE GATEWAY in Salt Lake City. DOPO, meaning “next” in Italian, is an upscale, live music-oriented restaurant featuring Mediterranean and Italian fare with nightly live jazz. DOPO will have a 1930s supper club ambiance.

Salt Lake City – Education technology company MASTERYCONNECT is acquiring Cambridge, Mass.-based Socrative, a student response system, for $5 million in cash and stock. The deal will add Socrative’s real-time classroom assessment functionality to MasteryConnect’s existing suite of cloud-based software.

Salt Lake City – EASTGATE ACQUISITIONS CORPORATION, a pharmaceutical company, received a research grant from the Ontario Brain Institute for its Lorazepam Spray development. The grant was issued for studying the administration of a transmucosal Lorazepam Spray for the treatment of epileptic seizures in outpatient settings.
