West Valley City - WEST VALLEY CITY received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for the 2010-2011 fiscal year, the city’s 18th consecutive award and its 19th overall. The award is given by the Government Finance Officers Association and is awarded based on the city’s comprehensive annual financial report.
          West Valley City is also participating in the Partnership for Youth Success Program (PaYS). The city partnered with the U.S. Army to interview qualified PaYS participants for employment with the city for future job openings upon receiving an honorable discharge, completion of active duty training or receiving a bachelor’s degree.

Salt Lake City - MHTN ARCHITECTS, INC. received an Honorable Mention Award for outstanding educational facility design by Learning By Design magazine. Judges recognized MHTN Architects for its innovative and environmentally sensitive design of the Helen M. Knight Elementary in Moab, Utah.

Salt Lake City - ZAGG INC. released the Boost NearField Audio speaker under the iFrogz brand. The Boost is a small, portable audio amplification unit that is compatible with any external speaker device, including mobile phones and MP3 players.

Salt Lake City - CODE CORPORATION launched its newest software product, CortexRM, at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society 2012 conference. CortexRM is a remote device management software interface that provides instant visibility and control of a code bar code reader.

Draper - MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL, INC. opened its 124-suite SpringHill Suites by Marriott at 12111 S. State Street. The SpringHill Suites will operate as a Marriott franchise, owned and managed by the WOODBURY CORPORATION of Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City - The RADISSON HOTEL SALT LAKE CITY DOWNTOWN completed a comprehensive renovation to upgrade the hotel’s interiors. This location is now one of the first Radisson Hotels to showcase the company’s new “Urban” guest room design.

Salt Lake City - Mass.-based Savant Systems acquired LITETOUCH, INC. of Salt Lake City, an industry pioneer in the residential and commercial lighting control marketplace. As a result, LiteTouch keypads will fully support a wide array of controlled devices, including third-party lighting systems, as part of Savant’s ecosystem of advanced automation.

Westminster’s Aviation School Earns AABI Accreditation

Salt Lake City - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE’s aviation program in the BILL AND VIEVE GORE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS earned accreditation from the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI). The accreditation, along with a completely re-designed curriculum, will position Westminster’s aviation students at the forefront of a changing industry.    

In the fall of 2011, Westminster’s aviation program implemented curriculum changes in advance of an expected overhaul of federal regulations prompted by a deadly crash in Buffalo, NY. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recently ruled that inadequate training contributed to the crash, which killed 50 people. Federal investigators found the pilots weren’t properly trained to handle a flight warning, nor were they able to recover the plane once they lost control.
