Snowbird - AERIE RESTAURANT, LOUNGE AND SUSHI BAR underwent a complete remodel, requiring the first full closure of the restaurant since it opened in 1986. The new design has the capacity to hold 200 guests in the restaurant, 75 in the lounge and 150 in private dining rooms.

Snowbird - SNOWBIRD collected thousands of cans of food and many hygiene items for the UTAH FOOD BANK during the resort’s annual Customer Appreciation Days. In addition, a financial contribution was raised for WASATCH ADAPTIVE SPORTS.

Park City - The International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) designated PARK CITY as the first Gold Ride Center. IMBA ranks locations for possible Ride Center status based on a comprehensive range of criteria including the number of miles of various types of trails to the types and quantities of lodging and restaurants in the area.

Midway - HOMESTEAD RESORT closed to begin its first phase of enhancements. This first phase will focus on upgrading the guest rooms while preserving the historic charm that has been a staple characteristic of the Homestead. The resort will reopen in April 2012 to reemerge as one of Utah’s most charming lodging and recreation properties.

Park City - NEW LIFE MEDICAL WEIGHTLOSS moved from Kamas to 1662 Bonanza Drive in Park City. It provides medical monitoring of clients’ weight loss, Vitamin B and HCG injections, Lipo-Blast injections, Botox injections and Latisse treatments.

Park City - The WASHINGTON SCHOOL HOUSE HOTEL opened. Built in 1889 as a schoolhouse, this historic Park City site was renovated to include 12 guest rooms. The hotel maintains its original exterior.

Park City - The KIMBALL ART CENTER presented the final architect model for its upcoming expansion. The art center is preserving and renovating its original building and creating an additional art center to be constructed adjacent to the original site. The project is slated to begin during 2013 and be completed in 2015.

MIRO Industries and Rooftop Anchor Open New Facility

Heber - MIRO INDUSTRIES, INC. and ROOFTOP ANCHOR, INC. moved corporate headquarters to a new 30,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Heber City. The new manufacturing facility will house engineering, sales, service, factory and administrative staff and include custom metal fabrication, product manufacturing, product testing and shipping.

MIRO Industries is a segment leader in the design and fabrication of durable, pre-manufactured pipe supports for the mechanical, roofing and electrical industry. Rooftop Anchor is a new, rapid-growth entry in the design, manufacturing, testing and installation of commercial fall protection equipment. The new finished facility employs more than 30 workers.

“The location and the quality of the local workforce were key points in our decision to purchase this property in Heber,” says Nate Sargent, president of both MIRO Industries and Rooftop Anchor.

“MIRO Industries and Rooftop Anchor’s collective investment in Heber says a lot about this area’s strengths. We have an excellent workforce, competitive business climate and a strong desire to work with businesses that create jobs,” says David Phillips, mayor of Heber City. Part of the catalyst for this project was the federal stimulus funds available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the goals of which include promoting small business in historically underutilized business zones.

St. George - STRATA’s Design 3D CXi is now available on the Mac App Store. It provides everything a designer needs to produce the highest-quality 3D models, renderings and animations. The toolset and user interface parallel the Adobe Creative Suite.

Cedar City - JIMMY JOHNS selected a site on 200 North, east of I-15, for a new location in Cedar City. G-COMPANIES is the franchisee and buyer of the site.

St. George - STRATEGIC UNIVERSITY MARKETING RESOURCES (SUMR) and the ST. GEORGE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE are partnering to offer chamber members business analysis and planning. SUMR is a community, student and professorial commercial consulting service.

Uintah County to Fund Expansion of Dinosaur Museum

Vernal - UINTAH COUNTY will fund the expansion of a popular state park in Vernal. The county, through its Impact Mitigation Special Service District, will spend $1.5 million to build a new repository and lab facility for the UTAH FIELD HOUSE OF NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM STATE PARK.

“The community is very positive toward dinosaurs and dinosaur bones,” Uintah County Commission Chairwoman Darlene Burns says. “These are things we find locally and this has been a great tourist draw.”

The existing storage facility was built in 1948 as the original Field House Museum. The new 11,000-square-foot facility that Uintah County plans to break ground on in the spring will be state of the art, as far as the lab and all the latest and best preparation tools. It will also have climate controls to ensure that fossils and artifacts aren’t degraded by the wild temperature swings that take place in the existing facility.

The new repository will have a glass partition that will allow museum visitors to watch as paleontologists and other experts prepare fossils and artifacts for storage or display. The Field House has seen an increase in visitors, which has been attributed to the recent re-opening of the visitor center at nearby Dinosaur National Monument.
