West Haven – The JACK B. PARSON COMPANIES (JBP) ready mixed concrete plant in West Haven was the first plant in Utah and the Mountain States region to receive the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s (NRMCA) prestigious Green-Star Certification. The Green-Star Program was developed by the NRMCA in collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to recognize the utilization of an environmental management system as a tool for benchmarking and continuous improvement.

Ogden – MINERAL RESOURCES INTERNATIONAL, INC., the manufacturer of Elete Electrolyte Add-In, announced changes to its Elete electrolytes product line, including switches in labeling and bottle sizes with some correlating changes in pricing. Its labels now feature a nutrition facts panel rather than a supplement facts panel. Tablytes Balanced Electrolyte Tablets has also changed branding so that the entire Elete product line is more cohesive.
North Salt Lake - KNEADERS BAKERY & CAFE, a Utah-based company specializing in sandwiches, homemade pastries, soups, salads and European breads, opened its 13th location. The 3,300-square-foot restaurant is located at 1050 N. 500 East in North Salt Lake and is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The new restaurant is run by franchisees Tui and Teresa Auva’a and Andrew and Shauna Smith.

Salt Lake City - UTAH HOUSING CORPORATION (UHC) announced the creation a relationship with UBS BANK USA, the banking affiliate of UBS Wealth Management Americas, in which UBS Bank USA will commit $150 million toward ensuring UHC’s ability to provide mortgages and down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers in Utah. The UBS Bank USA $150 million line of credit enables UHC to leverage financial tools that are available to state housing agencies through federal statutes. The result is consistent availability of low-rate mortgages and down payment assistance.
Salt Lake City - FREEDOM SPECIALTY INSURANCE COMPANY will offer medical-professional liability insurance. Freedom has selected MGIS UNDERWRITING MANAGERS, INC. as its program administrator. The Freedom policy will offer broad coverage provisions and is intended for select physicians. Physician groups of all sizes will be eligible for coverage.
Salt Lake City - UNIVERSITY OF UTAH HEALTH CARE achieved the No. 1 ranking in University HealthSystem Consortium’s 2010 Quality and Accountability Study. The annual study compares 98 of the nation’s top academic medical centers and ranks them based on core quality measures, patient safety indicators, mortality rates, re-admission rates and patient satisfaction scores. University of Utah Health Care has risen steadily in the annual assessment. Three years ago, it received a three-star ranking from the Consortium, ranking 50 out of 88 hospital systems. Last year, the university jumped to 31 out of 93 hospitals. And in this year’s survey, the university catapulted to a five-star ranking and the No. 1 position.

Salt Lake City - DECLAREMEDIA, a subsidiary of MWI, launched more than 2,000 online local business directories targeting more than 100 industries and types of businesses including accounting firms, AC repair, architects, assisted living facilities, attorneys, bridal shops, carpet cleaners, funeral homes, photographers, staffing agencies and Web designers. DeclareMedia plans to have approximately 10,000 directories live by the end of 2010, and 50,000 live by the end of 2011.
South Jordan - MERIT MEDICAL SYSTEMS, INC., a manufacturer and marketer of proprietary disposable medical devices, held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate its new $45 million construction project at 1600 West Merit Parkway. This event marked the commencement of a two-year construction project that will expand Merit’s capacity in Utah by approximately 240,000 square feet. The estimated $45 million facility will house about 700 new long-term employees and will eventually generate a $30 million payroll increase annually. In addition to the 700 new long-term jobs, the project will create approximately 350 construction jobs over the next two years.

West Valley City - For the 19th consecutive year, WEST VALLEY CITY has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for fiscal year 2009-2010. This award is presented to governmental entities that demonstrate the highest principles of proficiency and excellence in budget preparation and presentation. West Valley City is one of 21 government entities in Utah to receive the Distinguished Budget Award from the GFOA and one of 14 municipalities.
Salt Lake City - The U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION announced SALT LAKE CITY will receive $26 million from the highly competitive Tiger II Grant to fund the Sugar House Streetcar project. The announcement makes good on a campaign promise Mayor Becker made to fast-track the Sugar House Streetcar project.
Draper - HIREVUE, an international provider of video interviewing services, is expanding its Draper operations by leasing 5,949 additional square feet in the Draper Corporate Park. NAI UTAH represented the tenant and the landlord with the lease agreement. HireVue’s new space is located at 12227 S. Business Park Dr., Ste. 130. The additional space, which will be used for general office operations, will house between 30 and 40 employees.

Orem - LUNCHBOXERS, a healthy alternative to traditional school lunches, announced a new headquarters facility in Orem and a new kitchen location in Salt Lake City. Lunchboxers’ new 4,000-square-foot headquarter facility, located at 48 W. 300 North, will enable the company to significantly increase its production capabilities and to further expand its lunch menu offerings for schools across Utah.
Provo - R&O CONSTRUCTION has laid the foundation on Joaquin Village, a new student housing project at 600 E. 600 North. Joaquin Village will house more than 900 BYU students in two buildings of three to five levels over one level of underground parking. R&O Construction is constructing the project for PEAK CAPITAL PARTNERS of Orem.

Provo - BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY teams placed first and third in the newly added Mandarin Chinese section of the Business Language Case Competition. BYU also took third in Portuguese. The BYU-hosted competition attracted 22 teams from 16 universities across the country, including the University of Washington, Purdue University and Vanderbilt University. Students were charged to analyze, present and negotiate their solutions to complex business cases provided two weeks prior. Teams competed in either Chinese, Portuguese or Spanish.
St. George - The Yavapai County (Ariz.) Sheriff’s Office upgraded data communications capabilities for more than 120 rural patrol vehicles by installing systems made by WILSON ELECTRONICS. The Wilson signal boosters enable deputies to use onboard computers and cellular modems to access the department’s computer network and search for needed information or file reports directly from their patrol vehicles, even in remote areas of the county.

Hurricane - Food manufacturer LITEHOUSE INC. will build a new facility in Hurricane—an expected investment of more than $10 million that will add 162 new full-time positions in the rural community. Along with assistance from the local community, the state offered Litehouse a post-performance tax incentive of $502,400 as a tax credit over 10 years. Payment of the incentive comes from the corporate, sales and wage taxes the company will pay on the new plant. Over the lifetime of the 10-year incentive, the company will pay approximately $37 million in new wages and more than $2.5 million in new state taxes. Litehouse expects the new facility to open in the second quarter of 2011. The company says it is “pleased with the opportunity to work with many of the local highly skilled and qualified contractors” in the Washington County area to prepare for the official opening.
