Salt Lake City — Because of the tumultuous roll out of healthcare.gov, the Affordable Care Act online enrollment portal, Arches Health Plan has extended the deadline for payment of the first premium for coverage effective in January from Dec. 31 to Jan. 10, 2014.
For individuals paying the first premium or “binder payment” up to 11:59 PM on January 10 for an Arches plan, coverage would be effective on January 1, 2014.
“We know from calls to our call center and interactions in the community, people have been struggling to enroll,” said Shaun Greene, Arches’ chief operating officer. “Many are waiting for their paper application to be processed. Some were only able to enroll in the last few days after trying since October.”
Today’s announcement brings Arches into line with AHIP (America’s Health Insurance Plans), the national association of health plans. AHIP recently announced the extension to January 10 for coverage that would be retroactive to January 1.
